TikTok Black History Month

TikTok announced the first Visionary Voices List and a slate of programming and live events throughout Black History Month.

Black TikTok

In Tiktok’s own words: “We’re kicking off our Black History Month 2023 celebration with the debut of our first-ever Visionary Voices list, and an in-app #BlackTikTok programming hub — set to feature music playlists, an exciting LIVE line-up and a special series that will spotlight the inspiring diaspora of Black voices across our platform.”

Snapchat Black History Month

Snapchat announced a $40,000 giveaway program and creative tools to celebrate Black History Month.

On February 15, Snapchatters will be able to explore a new collection of Black History Month Lenses created by a group of seven Black AR creators.

Facebook and Instagram Black History Month

We couldn’t help but notice that Meta has not yet announced its programming for Black History Month 2023. Here’s hoping that both social media channels create campaigns for awareness around this important month, as they have in years past.

Why Brands Should Celebrate Black History Month on Social Media

Celebrating Black History Month on social media in a meaningful way can help brands to demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion. This not only shows a brand’s values, but also resonates with a significant portion of their audience, specifically Generation Z and Millennial consumers who place a high value on diversity in marketing.

By highlighting the achievements and contributions of Black individuals, brands can tap into a rich cultural heritage and foster a sense of community among their followers. Additionally, celebrating Black History Month on social media can help increase brand awareness and positively impact customer loyalty among a diverse range of consumers.

Black History in 2023 is more important than ever. It’s not enough to post a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. Brands need to go deeper, integrate diversity year-round into their marketing plans and core global values, and advocate for unheard voices and untold stories.
