The Wonder of Learning Boston 2018

One of the causes we are most passionate about is early education. So when we had the opportunity to develop marketing and branding materials for the Wonder of Learning Boston 2018, we were thrilled. We put our writing and design skills to use last summer on WOL’s prospectus, brochures and more.


The Wonder of Learning is a six-month exhibition, conference, and professional development series highlighting best practices in early childhood education. Organized by the Boston Area Reggio Inspired Network (BARIN) Inc., this unprecedented colloquium will take place at Wheelock College’s Boston campus along The Riverway.


The logo, designed by YHC’s Sarai Nunez, is a visual hybrid inspired by BARIN and the traveling exhibit from Reggio Emilia which constitutes the centerpiece of WOL Boston. (Reggio Emilia is a region in Italy famous for its pioneering early education practices).

Sarai chose typography that is warm, inviting and with pronounced serifs. The colorful swirl draws from BARIN’s current logo. When we look at that swirl, we find that it evokes a few things: discovery through art and splashes of paint, and if we were going to be super analytical (which we are!) and think about subliminal messages, we could see how it fits in with the theme of the exhibition: the endless potential of children and the cyclical benefits of high-quality early education programs.


Being the mom of a 6-year-old, I’ve seen firsthand the power that high quality early education programs can have on kids. The Wonder of Learning Boston has a bold plan to educate the educators—at least 15,000 of them from the heart of Boston and beyond—in six months, inspiring and empowering all teachers to provide the highest quality programs for their young learners, reaching more than 700,000 children over two decades.


The venue host for WOL Boston has a special place in our hearts. Sarai and I met at Boston University, and we’re proud that WOL has the support of BU (which recently absorbed Wheelock College in a merger). We couldn’t be more excited to continue as the marketing partner for the Wonder of Learning Boston 2018. Also just a giant shout-out to the amazing educators at Charlestown Nursery School, the driving force behind WOL.
